(2) IEC under a Recognized Organization (RO)
If your country is not on the list of countries eligible for the IEC, you can apply through a valid organization. An individual not from an IEC country or territory can come to Canada under the IEC if they use a RO for the same.
Youth service organizations provide work and travel facilities to the youth. ROs can be for profit, non-profit, or educational. Most of the ROs charge a fee for the IEC services they offer.
There are three pools of travel and work facilities available in the IEC. An individual can be eligible for more than one pool.
Working Holiday: Open work permit for Canada
Fund your stay with a temporary work permit in Canada.
Young Professionals: Employer-specific work permit
Obtain professional work experience in Canada to participate in a global economy. Self-employed work is not considered.
International Co-op (Internship): Employer-specific work permit
Gain significant international work experience in your field of study. An invitation to apply [ITA] should be issued to the candidate before they submit their application for the IEC program.
The step-by-step process to apply for the IEC program of Canada is given below:
STEP 1: Fulfill the IEC Eligibility Criteria
Duly answer the “Come to Canada” questionnaire, and obtain your unique reference code. Create an account with IRCC or Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.
STEP 2: Submit profile and application for a Canadian work permit
Submit your profile to a suitable IEC pool. The candidates receiving an ITA through their IRCC account have 10 days to initiate their application. Once the Canadian work permit application is started, the candidate has 20 days to complete and submit the duly filled application.
[For Young Professional and Co-op categories only] During the aforementioned 20-day period, the employer is required to pay the employer compliance fee via the Employer Portal.
Once the fee has been paid, the employer can send you a customized offer of employment number. It is required to apply for a Canadian work permit. Upload all the required documents and pay the fees online via the IRCC account.
STEP 3: Biometrics
If required, a BIL or biometric instruction letter will be issued to the individual – through their IRCC account – after they have submitted their application.
30 days are available after the receipt of the BIL to submit the biometrics at the VAC or Canada Visa Application Centre.
STEP 4: IEC Work Permit Assessment
Assessment has a maximum processing period of 56 days. Additional documents might be required.
IRCC would issue a Port of Entry Letter to the applicant. This letter, as well as the job offer confirmation letter, must be brought by the individual with them to Canada.
STEP 5: Travel to Canada
After receiving the approval, you can come to Canada.
