The IRCC or Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada has started a transition interval for international students to continue their studies online. The online study will not affect the eligibility requirements for the PGWP or post-graduation work permit in Canada.
An advisory has also been issued, asking the students to return to Canada barring any complications.

International students who opted to study online or students who have submitted a study permit application before August 31, 2022. They will be able to pursue their course online without hampering their eligibility for PGWP. The study time continued online from September 1, 2022, will not be considered from the length of their PGWP, irrespective of when the student commences their studies.
The extension of distance learning policies will hamper the PGWP eligibility of those commencing their courses from September 1, 2022 - August 31, 2023. These are the measures that will apply:
A maximum of 50 percent of the credits can be earned outside Canada to be eligible for the PGWP.
Studies pursued online from out of Canada starting on September 1, 2023, will not be considered from the length of PGWP in the future.
