South Korea’s Workation Visa

South Korea recently launched a digital nomad visa for remote workers, allowing foreigners to work remotely while visiting South Korea. The Workation visa, meaning work + vacation, is a contemporary trend. The concept promotes working while allowing long-term travel opportunities.

 

The Digital Nomad visa is valid for one year and can be extended for 12 months upon expiration.

 

The South Korean Minister introduced the visa to make things easier for foreigners to work while on vacation in South Korea. Working professionals from foreign companies can now have a more flexible work environment during vacation.

 

As per the previous guidelines, foreign nationals were required to have a tourist visa that allowed a temporary stay of less than 90 days.

Eligibility for South Korea’s Digital Nomad Visa

The eligibility criteria for the South Korean Digital Nomad Visa are as follows:

 

• Candidates must be associated with a foreign company that has worked in the same industry for over 12 months.
• Candidates must be over the age of 18.
• Candidates must have an annual income of $65,860.
• Candidates must submit a criminal clearance certificate
• Candidates must submit a medical insurance.
• Candidates must have home evacuation coverage worth $7,750.

 

 

South Korea Digital Nomad Visa

The South Korean Workation visa holders cannot seek employment at a local South Korean company or participate in profit-related activities.

 

The visa applications can be submitted via the Korean embassies, and individuals already residing in Korea with a temporary visa can switch to the Digital Nomad upon fulfilling the eligibility.

 

The Korean Ministry revealed a new edition of the policy plans for foreign nationals for 2027. The policies are focused on streamlining the development strategies for immigrants. The five-year plan announced by South Korea for immigrant intake is 200,000.
