If you are thinking of applying for Canada PR visa, you should know the steps in the application process and be sure of the immigration program that you choose for your PR visa. The Express Entry System and the PNP are two ways to get your Canada PR. But first you should check if you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for Canada’s immigration programs. If you meet the eligibility requirements, here is a brief description of the steps you should follow:
Cost of applying for Canada PR in 2022
The amount of money you will need to move to Canada is determined by the size of your family and the immigration program you choose. In addition, it includes settlement funds, processing fees, document translation, and other costs.
Even before you choose an immigration program under which you want to migrate to Canada, you should first be prepared to meet certain expenses such as cost for language proficiency tests, educational assessments and cost for the medical tests.
In Canada, the CELPIP General Test costs CAD $ 280 including taxes. The cost of the IELTS General Test is CAD$ 300 with taxes. The availability and costs differ by country.
You may also need to get your diplomas validated by a Canadian government-approved institution. World Education Services is one of them (WES). The cost of a diploma validation is approximately CAD 220, with an extra CAD$ 100 for each additional unit. Basic delivery and taxes are included in the price.
This process is required not only for Express Entry and PNPs, but also for applications for temporary residency (like study or work visas). They are only carried out by doctors who have been approved by the Canadian government.
The cost depends on the doctor, the city, and the country, as well as the required exams, which normally include a chest X-ray, blood test, and a urine test. The best option is to call a qualified specialist near your home and inquire about costs.
Following the submission of your profile and receipt of an Invitation to Apply (ITA), the candidate must deliver the papers and documentation that attests to the accuracy of the information provided on the profile.
The cost of translations is between CAD 350 to CAD 450.
Application cost for Express Entry program
There is no cost involved in creating an Express Entry profile, however you will have to pay when you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). The processing fees are the same for the principal applicant and his/her spouse and a separate fee for every dependent child. However, children are exempt from paying the right of permanent resident fee.
Type of applicant | Fees in CAD |
Principal applicant | $825 |
Spouses or common-law partners | $825 |
Dependent children | $225 |
Right of permanent resident fee | $500 |
Application cost for Provincial Nominee Program
Each province and territory determine their own application or processing fees. They are in addition to the federal immigration fees that successful province nominees must pay in order to apply for Canada PR visa. However, the charges for the entire family for PNP applications is fixed.
Proof of funds
Immigration candidates should provide proof of funds called settlement funds. Letters from banks where the money is deposited is required as proof. However, those who are authorized to work in Canada or have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada are not required to submit this proof.
The settlement funds will vary depending on the number of family members of the primary PR applicant.
The funds should be enough to cover the cost of living for themselves and their family members in Canada. Applicants should submit the proof when they submit their application.
The amount of money required depends on the size of the family of the immigrant. The amounts are revised every year. The requirements for 2021 are:
Number of Family Members | Funds Required (in Canadian dollars) |
1 | $13,213 |
2 | $16,449 |
3 | $20,222 |
4 | $24,553 |
5 | $27,847 |
6 | $31,407 |
7 | $34,967 |
Each additional family member | $3,560 |
To determine the amount of money they will need, applicants will have to research the cost of living in the place where they wish to migrate. However, they cannot borrow this money from others and come to the country.
Immigrants can bring this money to Canada in the form of cash, stocks or bonds, bank drafts, cheques etc.
Candidates should submit this proof of funds once they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for their PR visa.
The total cost of your PR visa will be the sum of your application fees for you and your spouse and dependents, fees for medical examination, English language test, ECA fees, medical examination fees etc.
