Australia PR visa process – The steps involved

  There are a few easy steps in the process of Australian permanent residency:

  • You must check whether you have the eligibility to apply for an Australia PR visa. For this, you have to obtain at least 65 points on the points grid. The occupation you selected to do in Australia must be present in the SOL. Also, you can’t be older than 45 years.
  • You must get the necessary scores for eligibility in the English language test which can be one of the following:
    • IELTS – A minimum score of 7
    • PTE – A minimum score of 65
    • TOEFL – A minimum score of 25
  • Then you must lodge an application for skill assessment through the designated authority. You have to choose a relevant body like SkillSelect to assess your skills.
  • Submit your EOI (Expression of Interest) to immigrate to Australia with SkillSelect.
  • Receive your ITA after which you must submit an application online for an Australia PR visa along with necessary documents. The application must be lodged within 60 days of receiving ITA. The documents submitted with the application include health and character clearance certificates too.

Time taken for each step in the Australia PR process

  Skill Assessment After you have provided every document required along with the application, you will be able to get results faster. At this stage, the processing time taken is 45-60 days. Submit EOI The processing time at this stage depends on the score you got after the assessment by SkillSelect. Visa Application The visa application you submit with DIBP after receiving ITA is generally done 2 months after you get the ITA. Verification & Medicals You have to apply for verification and medicals once you receive ITA. The faster you do it, along with document submission the faster the Australia PR visa decision comes your way. Visa Approval After submitting the required documents, DIBP does thorough research on them. If found satisfactory, your visa will be granted within 3 to 5 months. Departure to Australia You have 6 months to migrate to Australia after receiving the confirmation of the approval of your visa.

Major Australia PR pathways
