If you want to work in Estonia, know what the country has on offer for immigrants who wish to work and live there.
Estonia is a high-income economy in north Europe. It ranks very high on all human development indices, including universal healthcare, free education, and economic freedom.
Moreover, it is also ranked highly on quality of living and the precedence accorded to technology. The World Economic Forum (WEF) considers Estonia the number one entrepreneurial country in Europe.
Working hours and vacations
It has a five-day workweek where employees need to put in up to 40 hours. All the workers are eligible for 28 days of paid leaves in a year.
Minimum wage
The minimum monthly income per month is €584 for full-time work. The income tax in this country across the board is 20%.
Social security benefits
Estonian employees who are staying in the country on a temporary residency permit or right of residence are entitled to be insured when social tax is paid at a 33% rate on all payments by their employer to migrant workers, allowing them to be covered for health insurance and for accessing public healthcare in Estonia.
Employees can claim up to 182 days of paid leave. During this period, their gross pay would be 70% of their average salary of the preceding year.
Maternity and parental leaves
Estonia grants maternity leave of 20 weeks, of which a mother can use 70 of them before the child's expected due date. Moreover, €320 is granted to the parents as a childbirth allowance.
The state funds the parental benefits. Both parents in Estonia are granted 435 days of parental leave, which combinedly can be availed consecutively or in a staggered fashion. Both parents are not eligible for this leave simultaneously. One of the parents will be granted parental leaves to raise the child for up to 3 years.
Conclusion
Apart from the above advantages, Estonia is a clean country with a minimal crime rate. The cost of accommodation in this country is also lower than its counterparts in Europe.
As both public transport and health care are free, employees have on their hands more disposable income. With English being widely spoken in Estonia, immigrants can feel at ease while communicating with others.
Estonia's pensionable age is 63 years for both men and women. It is expected to be raised to 65 by the year 2026.
