The government of the UK has issued new guidance for foreigners stuck in the country. It offers a grace period of one month for all visas of foreign nationals that are expiring and expired. These are foreigners who are not able to go back to their own countries owing to the COVID-19 pandemic until August 31, 2020.
This extension of stay granted was at first announced to be applicable until May 31, 2020, which was extended till July 31, 2020. Now that’s been extended for another month. The extension granted will be applicable to anyone who's time to stay in the UK expired after24 January 2020, but are unable to leave the country as there are travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
Those affected this way will be provided visa extensions and as the situation becomes normal, necessary arrangements will also be made for their return to their home countries. The government of the UK is committed to this policy related to UK migration.
There are over 40,000 visa extensions that the government has granted. The affected people are also provided relaxation on the rules governing switching in the UK. Because of this, those who desire to continue in the UK can submit an application to help them do the same while completing the grace period. The Home Office has also issued the guidance that all those who want to remain in the UK for the long term should apply for the necessary leave to do so during this period of extension.
The UK government assures that those individuals whose leave or visa has expired between 24 January 2020 and 31 July 2020 won’t have to face any adverse consequences under UK immigration rules for overstaying that happened between 24 January and 31 August.
