Canada is a popular migration destination, given the country's welcoming policies and abundance of job possibilities.

In 2021, Canada will continue to be the favored destination for Indian immigrants, with an admission target of more than 1.2 million persons between 2021 and 2023.

Moving to Canada also means a better quality of life and living conditions.

Canada’s immigration targets, till 2023, are as below:

Year Immigrants
2021 401,000
2022 411,000
2023 421,000

With over a million newcomers expected to arrive in Canada between 2021 and 2023, now is the best time to relocate to the country. To offset the economic and fiscal effects of its ageing population and low birth rate, the country needs a large number of immigrants.

Ways to migrate to Canada

Express Entry System: The Canada Express Entry Program grades PR applicants using a points-based methodology. Qualifications, experience, Canadian employment status, and provincial/territorial nomination all help applicants receive points.  The qualifying points are 67 out of 100. Check your eligibility here. The more points you have, the more likely you are to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency. A Comprehensive Ranking System, or CRS, is used to assign points to applicants.

There are three categories under the Express Entry program

  • Federal Skilled Worker
  • Federal Skilled Trades
  • Canada Experience Class

There will be a minimum cutoff score for each Express Entry draw. All applicants with a CRS score equal to or higher than the cutoff level will receive an ITA. If more than one nominee has a score equal to the cutoff, the one with the longest presence in the Express Entry pool will be granted an ITA.

To apply under the Express Entry system, you do not need an employment offer in Canada. However, depending on the skill level, a job offer in Canada will enhance your CRS points from 50 to 200. Express Entry streams are also available in Canada's provinces to assist them in selecting talented people from the Express Entry pool.

A provincial nomination boosts the CRS score by 600 points, ensuring an ITA.

The Express Entry program has streamlined the immigration process and made it more transparent. Key details of the program are:

  • The program has no cap on applicants and is open throughout the year
  • The program allows successful applicants to bring their family members.
  • Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest to apply for this program
  • Their profile will be evaluated based on points and will be placed in the applicant pool
  • Applicants with the highest points are sent invitations to apply for PR
  • This migration program has one of the fastest processing times with more than 75% of applications being processed in four months
  • Annual Immigration Level determine the number of ITAs that can be issued

Provincial nominee program: Canada’s provinces have their own immigration program called the Provincial Nominee Program or PNP. This program allows each province to meet its immigration needs by nominating a certain number of immigration candidates for PR visas based on their economic and skill requirements. They usually look out for foreign immigrants with experience in occupations that are in demand in their provinces.

The PNP works on a points-based system. Application for a PR visa through the PNP program requires the applicants to have some connection to the province. You can be either working in that province or have studied there. You can be eligible if you have a job offer from an employer in the province.

Steps to apply

  • You must apply in the province or region where you desire to settle.
  • You could be nominated by the province to apply for a PR visa if your profile meets the eligibility criteria.
  • You can apply for your PR visa after you are nominated by a province.

The criteria for evaluating the PR application can differ for each province.

Migration for work

The job outlook for Canada in 2022 shows job opportunities in various sectors. New opportunities are expected to open for immigrants in the face of increased automation and use of technology.

In the next years, Canada is expected to address job shortages once more, and more actively than before COVID-19, especially when 9 million baby boomers reach retirement age in the following decade.

Migration for studies

Canada has become a popular destination for international students. The top reasons why students choose Canada include the quality of its education system. There are various courses and programs students can choose from. The universities here provide numerous research opportunities. Students can work while doing their course and have good internship opportunities.

International students who work here have the possibility of immigration after completing their course. They can apply for a PR visa once their course is over.

Australia

Australia has always been a popular immigrant destination.  The country has favorable factors such as a thriving economy which means more job opportunities. Australia promises a better quality of life and a multicultural society where there is peace and harmony.

Australia has a range of visa sub-categories for people who want to move there. The Australian government has established a number of PR visa immigration programs in order to streamline the immigration process, filter immigrants, and ensure that only qualified individuals are granted visas.

Each immigration program has its own set of criteria, conditions, and qualifying requirements.

In Australia, the eligibility of immigration petitions is assessed using a points-based system. To be considered, you must first meet the eligibility requirements, which are 65 or higher on a scale of 100. The following is a list of the scoring criteria:

Migration for work

Skilled stream: Australia is in need of qualified migrants who can contribute to the country's economic growth. Skilled migrants bring a higher level of education, a better likelihood of obtaining work, and the ability to contribute more to the economy. Employee-sponsored migrants are more likely to achieve their objectives.

Most persons wish to migrate to Australia as skilled workers, and they do so through the Skilled Migration Program.

The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program allows you to apply for a visa.

To be eligible for a visa under this program, you must meet the GSM category's basic  requirements, these include:

  • Have experience in a nominated occupation on Australia's Skilled Occupations List
  • Get a skill assessment report by a designated authority for that occupation
  • Submit an Expression of Interest
  • Be under 45 years
  • Meet general Skilled Migration basic requirements
  • Score at least 65 on the points test
  • Meet health and character requirements

Once you receive an invitation to apply for this visa, you must do so within 60 days.

Moving to Australia under any of these visas under the Skilled migration program will lead to permanent residency in Australia after a few years of stay.

Family stream: If a close relative is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you can migrate to Australia under the family stream. Spouses/partners, dependent children, parents of citizens, and permanent residents of Australia prioritize the family stream. It also allows other family members, such as elderly and dependent relatives, caregivers, and others, to relocate to Australia to be with their families.
