Lately, there has been an attempt to find out the best communities in Canada in 2021 by Maclean’s, Canada’s national news magazine. As a result, a list has been created.

These cities came on the list as the best places to live in Canada for different reasons. When you decide your choice personally, you should dig deeper into what makes it a great place for you.
So, here, we look at the top-ranking cities that came on top as the best communities in Canada in 2021.
Halifax
Halifax has much more doctors and specialists per capita than any other place in Canada. Also, Halifax has more days without snow or rain. The temperatures here are above the freezing point for more days than in other places in Canada.
There’s great internet access in here which is an advantage given the opportunity to work from home. There’s also a wide variety of bars and restaurants besides easy access to an airport.
Charlottetown
This place has more affordable housing. The average cost of housing comes down by roughly $12,000 comparing to other places in Canada. The place has a lower property tax too when calculated as a percentage of the average earnings.
Fredericton
This is yet another community that has low housing costs. It’s cheaper by approximately $90,993 than Charlottetown. The presence of doctors and specialists is more than in Charlottetown. But in this regard, Halifax is better than both Charlottetown and Fredericton.
Fredericton ranks second on the list.
St. Thomas and Belleville
These communities are ranked third and fourth respectively in the list. These communities are ranked for the great internet access they feature. There’s also a high number of doctors and specialists as well as amenities in each of these communities.
Between these 2 communities, while St. Thomas scored on safety by low crime rate, Belleville had more doctors and specialists than St. Thomas.
Edmonton and Winnipeg
Edmonton and Winnipeg came at fifth and sixth positions respectively. These communities had an impressive variety of restaurants, bars, and world-class hotels. Real estate is also very affordable considering Canadian cities of their size.
Both communities also have a high number of doctors and specialists per capita. Their score is not that good considering the crime rate.
Moncton
Moncton was ranked 7 on the list. The community has amazing internet access and greatly affordable housing. The property tax in tandem with income isn’t great. The provincial tax rate for the average family is also not too high.
Cornwall
This place was ranked 8 on the list. The community here features low real estate costs. The place has a strong sense of engagement as a community. This makes Cornwall attractive even with comparatively high property taxes relative to income. There’s also great internet access.
Brooks
This is a fast-growing community that got ranked towards the bottom of the top 10 list. The community offers entrepreneurs a lot of opportunities. There are also very low income and property taxes relative to average income.
The community is however low on internet access and the presence of doctors and specialists. The crime rate is also on the higher side of the national average.
