Single Work Permit Directive

The Single Work Permit Directive sets the application process for the EU countries for the issuance of a single permit. It also decides the set of rights that individuals from third countries can exercise. The European Union Parliament and Council recently agreed on a pact regarding the revisions in the Single-Permit Directive.

The new changes will work on streamlining the application process for both EU residence and work permits. Non-EU workers will, however, get the same rights as EU citizens after the implementation of the legislation.

Rights of Non-EU Workers

Non-EU workers can get the same benefits as EU workers. Some of the rights are mentioned below:

  • Working conditions
  • Recognition of qualifications
  • Tax benefits
  • Social security

Benefits of the Revised Single-Permit Directive

Some of the benefits of the revisions made to the Single-permit Directive are as follows:

  • Streamlined application process to promote foreign recruitment.
  • It protects third-country workers by offering them a chance to switch employers.
  • Non-EU workers will get minimum employment and will not be asked to withdraw their residence and single work permit.
  • The changes will encourage equal treatment of non-EU workers.
  • Third-country nationals can now apply for a single permit from EU Member States along with non-EU countries.

*Note: The above point is valid for individuals currently residing in the state with an authorized Residence permit.
