Prince Edward Island (PEI) conducted 3 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws since the beginning of COVID-19 shutdown measures in Canada.

Candidates from Labor Impact and Express Entry were invited by Prince Edward Island PNP.

These candidates have been working in essential services such as trucking and healthcare.

The Business Impact candidates, who are generally included in PEI PNP draws were not been called in these 3 draws. Hence, only 29 candidates got invitations from these 3 draws.

The first of these 3 draws took place on March 23, 2020. 5 candidates were sent invites to apply for a provincial nomination from PEI in that draw.

Then another one was conducted by PEI on April 27, 2020, inviting 10 candidates.

The last one was held on May 15, 2020 with 14 candidates invited.

The PEI PNP’s Express Entry aligns itself with the federal Express Entry system of Canada. It manages the applications of the same 3 economic class categories of immigrations namely:

  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Express Entry candidates submit their profiles that are kept in the Express Entry pool. Here they are ranked with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores. These scores are based on:

  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Age
  • Language skills

Upon getting a provincial nomination, these candidates are granted an extra 600 points. They will thus be effectively guaranteed that they will get Invitation to Apply (ITA) from the Canadian government in a coming draw.

The EOI profile that candidates of PEI PNP create is given scores based on PEI’s unique points grid.

The top scorers get invited to apply via monthly draws.

Candidates in the Labor Impact category hold valid job offers in PEI, with support from their employers.

The labor Impact stream is divided into:

  • International Graduate
  • Skilled Worker
  • Critical Worker

Candidates under this stream also compulsorily submit an EOI profile to be eligible for consideration for a provincial nomination.
