New policy for PGWPs

Post-Graduation Work Permit holders whose work permit has been expired between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2022, are given a chance to eligible for the upcoming one-time PFWP extension.

Important points to note

The new policy works better and benefits anyone who has an expiring PGWP. This minor change will serve the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates who did not have an opportunity to apply for immigration through Express Entry since September 21, 2021.

To work on the backlog in immigration applications. Usually, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) kept hold for the draws, who are often PGWP holders. The draws are expected to resume for these candidates from July 6.

The PGWPs are called special deals for international students. Usually, these international student graduates will be eligible for full-time programs and can even get an open work permit for three years.

With the new policy, the eligible PGWP holders can apply for a new open work permit with a validity period of up to 18 months.

This special measure for PGWP was announced in April; still, the details need to be available for official confirmation.

Currently, Many PGWP holders’ documents are near the expiry date, keeping their stay in a risk state. They either have to get a new work permit or quit jobs or even leave Canada.
