PEI’s Sustainable Approach

A recent plan named Growing Together: A Population Framework for Prince Edward Island was introduced in February last week. The Growing Together plan focuses on sustainability and emphasizes five priorities for PEI.

The priorities listed under the new plan are as follows:

  • Retaining and building the province’s workforce
  • Expanding public services and critical infrastructure
  • Supporting environmental sustainability and land-use planning
  • Increasing community connectedness and sense of belonging
  • Long-term reporting and planning

PEI's Minister of Workforce, Jenn Redmond, commented that it is easier to adapt to demographic and population shifts to fill up gaps in the current public system under the new framework.

PEI Immigration Streams

PEI is to distribute 75% of its annual federal nominations to be aligned with nine provincial sectors, emphasizing the nomination of skilled workers in healthcare, childcare, trades and other major industries.

Besides the Atlantic Immigration Program, the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) accelerates Canadian immigration to individuals and their families mainly via three streams:

  • PEI Express Entry
  • PEI Labour Impact
  • PEI Business Impact
