Ontario issued invites to 64 skilled workers on May 25, 2021. They were offered a provincial nomination for which they were invited to apply for.
The OINP invited immigration candidates with a profile in the EOI system. Invited candidates had already done registration for the Regional Immigration Pilot. They are now eligible to apply for the immigration stream namely “Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker”.
Since the launch of the new application intake system, this is the third EOI draw that Ontario has held. The new application was launched in April 2021. It's also the first draw of its kind since the province launched the Regional Immigration Pilot in 2020.
About the Regional Immigration Pilot
Even when Ontario is the top destination for fresh immigrants, as is the rest of Canada, the province faces a constant struggle to attract new immigrants to its rural communities.
It was to address this issue that led to labor shortages that the Regional Immigration Pilot was launched. This pilot is expected to be of great help and benefit to some of the rural communities.
The pilot helps the province in the allocation of 150 nominations in 2021 to 3 of its rural locations namely Cornwall, Quinte West/Belleville, and Chatham-Kent. These municipalities convinced the province that they have labor shortages in skilled jobs. Also lacking was the ability to help new immigrants get settled.
You could get a provincial nomination via the pilot if:
Employer Job Offer streams are 3 namely:
Any nomination via a PNP is a major asset when applying for Canada immigration. It’s the PNPs that show the federal government that the applicant offers support to the needs of the regional labor market. The federal government takes the final decision regarding any applications for Canada immigration. However, the huge majority of provincial nominees receive approval for Canada PR.
The pilot is planned to be in operation for 2 years before it’s reviewed. There’s a possibility for its extension to happen or getting discontinued. This depends solely on the performance of the pilot.
