Portuguese government introduced a new initiative, Programa Integrar, to support foreign nationals enrolled in the National Institution of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
This program is for unemployed candidates seeking their first job and migrants looking to change their profession or access vocational training. It offers a range of services such as :
The program aims to improve job opportunities for candidates through different active employment measures by addressing cultural barriers and improving social and professional skills.
At the end of the process, IEFP will initially assess each candidates profile, needs, and expectations through an individual in-person interview. This assessment will help create more secured employment and training plans and identify any necessary Portuguese language training
This process will also recognize and evaluate participants' existing school and employment qualifications, ensuring they are directed to an appropriate equivalence or recognition process.
The Portugal government states that there was a 24 percent reduction in work visas granted during June, July, and August of this year compared to the same months in 2023.
Portugal issued 1,266 work visas to foreign workers in June, July, and August 2024, down from 1,666 in the same period of the previous year. Portugal issued more work visas from January to August 2024 than during the same period last year.
