On November 4, 2020, Ontario held a PNP immigration draw wherein OINP issued invites, also called NOIs, to Express Entry candidates. They could qualify for 2 provincial immigration streams that are meant for Skills Trades Workers and French speakers.
The invitations were issued to candidates in the streams of Skilled Trades and French-speaking Skilled Worker. These PNPs are aligned with the Express Entry system. So, those who get a provincial nomination from Ontario will get 600 extra points on their CRS scores. That will effectively guarantee that those candidates will get an ITA for Canada PR in an upcoming Express Entry draw.
About Express Entry
Canada’s Express Entry system is tasked with managing the applications and profiles of immigration candidates for 3 federal immigration programs namely FSWP, FSTP, and CEC.
The Express Entry candidates are assigned ranks on the basis of factors such as age, work experience, education, and proficiency in the languages of English or French.
Once contacted by the OINP, the candidates have 45 days to apply online for their provincial nomination. An online application can be made by the applicant or by his/her representative.
About the Skilled Trades stream
Candidates under this stream must have a minimum of a year’s cumulative full-time paid work experience or equivalent part-time experience in Ontario. The eligible skilled trades must be listed in Minor Group 633, or Major Groups 82, 73, and 72 of the National Occupation Classification.
The experience from work must have been gained from Ontario within the last 2 years from the date of submission of the application. The work experience must be in any of the jobs identified in the Express Entry profile.
These candidates must also have a valid license or certificate in case they are claiming work experience in a trade that needs certification. The minimum CLB score required is 5.
About the French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream
The PNP is tailored for Express Entry candidates who speak French and English. They must meet the eligibility requirements of CEC or the FSWP. They must also have at least 6 in English and 7 in French as their CLB score.
