Canada is expanding its case processing center in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The aim is to process more applications for family visas, enabling the faster reunion of families in Canada.
A media release stated that IRCC will set up an office in a new space, employing 62 additional employees who will work primarily on family class visa applications from overseas applicants. Restrictions related to COVID-19 have limited the occupancy of the new location to 30% as of now. IRCC will be able to increase the manpower and operational capacity of the new office space. It will allow more employees who are working remotely to come back to the office.
As the new office space is taken on a year’s lease, IRCC will be able to evaluate the needs of this office again in the coming years. The new office, as per Canada immigration minister, Marco Mendicino, will help the immigration department to return to the 1-year standard for applications for spousal visas.
