Portugal’s D-3 visa applications on the rise

The D-3 visa program aims to welcome highly qualified workers from Switzerland, the European Economic Area and non-European Union countries. Immigration lawyer Vanessa Mororo says that Portugal is becoming a global technology hub and is planning to bring several companies and professionals to strengthen the technology industry. 

 

Mororo also states that there are increased applications for D-3 visas because of the high average pay offered to IT professionals, which attracts Brazilian applicants. Moreover, the implementation of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries) has made the process of obtaining residence permits easier.

 

According to Mororo, the implementation of CPLP has also made the Portuguese job market more accessible to Portuguese-speaking countries like Brazil.

Top professions for obtaining a D-3 Visa

The following are the most sought-after professions for obtaining a Portuguese D-3 Visa, as reported by Mororo:

Mirian Gasparin reports that the longest wait time for D-3 visa processing is for getting your residence permit converted after you arrive in Portugal rather than waiting for the Visa to be processed.

Eligibility for D-3 Visa 

To benefit from the Portugal D-3 visa, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• You must have a valid and genuine Employment Contract or
• You must be engaged in an independent activity which requires knowledge and skills.

 

Processing time 

The processing time for D-3 Visa includes a special 30-day period, as emphasized by Mororo. However, the processing time may vary based on the location and the time of the year you are applying.

 

Validity of the D-3 Visa Program

You can apply for a D-3 visa from the country of your legal residence. The validity for this Visa is four months to enter Portugal. The Visa has to be converted into a temporary residence permit after entering the country.

The first temporary residence card would be valid for two years and the second for three years. You can apply for Portuguese nationality after being a five-year legal resident.
