IRCC says 'Canada visit visa holders can work in Canada, if they have a valid job offer'

Highlights: Visitors to acquire work permits with a valid job offer

• IRCC announced that foreign nationals in Canada with a valid employment offer can apply for a Canadian work permit.
• The policy was introduced in 2020 as a temporary program policy to help temporary residents in Canada with job offers.
• The extension of this policy will be applicable till February 28, 2025.
• Candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria to qualify for the temporary public policy.

Eligibility for Temporary public policy

To qualify for the temporary public program, the candidate must fulfil the given criteria:

• Have an authorized Canada visitor status when applying for a permit.
• Have a valid employment offer backed with LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) or an offer letter with an LMIA-exempt offer.
• You must submit an application before February 28, 2025, and adhere to the other admissible criteria.

• 608,420 work permits were issued in the year 2022.
• Canada adds 150,000 new jobs in January 2023, StatCan Reports.
• A valid job offer in Canada is a written contract for full-time or non-seasonal work.
• The candidate is required to have a Labor Market Impact Assessment from ESDC to qualify for the work permit.
• Candidates currently in Canada with the status of a visitor while holding a work permit for the past year must follow different guidelines to finalize their application.
