India and China are a major source of tourists for Thailand. Hence to enhance the tourism industry in the country, Thailand is planning to introduce visa-free travel for both countries.India is currently eligible for the visa-on-arrival facility in Thailand. The country has also waived off the visa fee for Indians till October 2019.Minister of Tourism, PipatRatchakitprakarn, announced that India and China would be able to avail visa-free travel by the end of this year. Travelers from India and China would be able to enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 14 days.The new visa change could come into effect as early as 1st November 2019. It is expected to make a major impact on the tourism industry of Thailand.Thailand has set a tourism revenue target of TBH 3.4 trillion including domestic tourism this year. International tourists are expected to make up almost TBH 2.2 trillion in revenue. Thailand expects to hit more than 40.5 million in tourist arrivals.The Minister of Tourism expects the number of Chinese tourists to reach at least 11 million this year.1.5 million Indians traveled to Thailand in 2018. This put India at the 6th place of the largest source countries for tourism in Thailand, as per The Times of India.
