The big leap
It’s being speculated that Quebec immigration is set to soar to a record high of 71,275 new permanent residents in 2022. This increase in numbers will make up for the loss of those immigrants who failed to arrive in Quebec due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, the increase in the number of immigrants is expected to be 41.7% from 2021. In 2021, the total number of immigrants was 50,285.

Jean Boulet comments
The Immigration Minister of Quebec, Jean Boulet, stated that the increase in immigration to Quebec is an effort to cover the losses in immigration numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There was a fall in the number of immigrants in Quebec in 2020, that fell short by 18,775 in that year. The immigration target for 2020 was 44,000.
“The limit on the number of immigrants allowed, based on the multi-year plan, limits new permanent residents to Quebec to 52,500 per year,” |

A rise in the number of TFW migrants
With the boost in Quebec immigration, the province is expecting an increase in TFWs (Temporary Foreign Workers). From the mere 30,000 who worked in Quebec in 2021, the aim now is to reach 80,000 immigrants every year.
“With the simplified applications and the addition of several occupations, trades that will benefit from fast-track processing for temporary immigration, there will certainly be more (temporary foreign workers in Quebec) to meet the demands of Quebec businesses,” |
