According to reports by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, citizenships were issued to 200,100 immigrants. The 2023 immigration figures in Germany increased by 19% as compared to 2022 and reached the highest count since 2000.
German citizenships were issued to nationals from 157 different countries. The highest number of people acquiring German citizenships in 2023 was from countries mentioned in the table below:

Recent statistics revealed that German citizens who have been newly naturalized have an average age of 29.3. Women immigrants account for around 45% of the total naturalized population. Data from the Government of Germany revealed that around 12 million German immigrants do not have a German passport.
The Federal Office reported that Germany received 6869 naturalization requests from Israelis with German ancestry in the first four months of 2024. 9,129 applications were received for naturalization in 2023.
The German authorities are planning to introduce a new online platform to provide details about acquiring Citizenship in Germany. A new advertising campaign and an online website will be launched, which will have details about the requisites and steps to apply for German Citizenship.
The German Government is implementing new changes to improvise the process of acquiring German citizenships for children of immigrant parents. The period of legal residence required to apply for German Citizenship has been currently reduced to 5 years from 8 years.
