New Visa Regulations for foreign students in Germany

Germany now allows foreign students to work even before starting their studies in Germany under the new skilled worker law from March 2024. This move aims to attract qualified workers in Germany, as reported by SchengenVisaInfo.

The new visa regulations introduced by Germany allowing international students to work while studying will help students from lower-income families to pursue foreign education. The second part of the new skilled worker law, enacted in November 2023, extends the advantages to apprentices and graduates.

Germany's Second Part of New Skilled Worker Law

Non-EU students can now come to Germany nine months before their academic course and are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week.

Aspiring students were allowed to come to Germany nine months before their studies started, but under the new changes, students can even start working before their academic course begins.

New rules extended to apprenticeship applicants.

Apprenticeship applicants in Germany can also start working before and after starting their apprenticeship work or while searching for one.

There are two main requirements specified for applicants:

  • The applicant must be under the age of 35

Germany allows apprenticeship applicants to work 20 hours per week before training starts.
