• Canada held its first draw of Express Entry in 2023 on January 11, 2023, ever since November 23, 2022
• Canada issued 5,500 invitations to the candidates under Express Entry with a minimum CRS score of 507.
• The eligible candidates can apply for Canada PR through Express Entry programs in 60 days.
• There is an increase in Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issuance, considered the largest of an all-program draw of Express Entry since July 2022.
• It’s a #237 draw under Express Entry, the 12th draw of the all-program Express Entry, and the first-ever draw in 2023.

First ever all-program Express Entry draw held on January 11, 2023

IRCC issued invitations to 5,500 candidates in the pool whose CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score is a minimum of 507 or above.

This is the first draw through all-program Express Entry in the 2023 year held on January 11, 2023.

The eligible candidates received the invitations through FSTP (Federal Skilled Trades Program), FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program), and CEC (Canadian Experience Class) of Express Entry.

Observations from the draws of Express Entry in 2022

Express Entry had a fantastic 2022 year. Under Express Entry, 23 draws were held in 2022, and 46,538 candidates received Express Entry invitations.

The draws considered were between January 2022 and July 20222. These draws were exclusively held for the candidates in PNPs (Provincial Nominee Programs).

November 23, 2022, the last draw of Express Entry, has seen the lowest CRS score of 491. 

Changes and updates of Express Entry happened in 2022

IRCC made major changes to Express Entry which were to be implemented from November 2022 during the second half of 2022.

IRCC updated its NOC 2016 to NOC 2021 by categorizing the skills based on TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities) system.

The NOC (National Occupation Classification) system determines a candidate’s skill level and profession under Express Entry.

What is Express Entry?

IRCC offers Express Entry application management systems for 3 immigration programs in Canada. They are:

• The Canadian Experience Class (CEC),
• The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),
• The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Express Entry utilizes a points-based system, the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System), to rank candidates’ profiles. Candidates with top scores receive an ITA (Invitation to Apply) and can then apply for Canada PR.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is another program for foreign nationals whose profile is already in the pool of Express Entry & who are already eligible for at least one of the Express Entry programs.
