First-ever STEM round of invitations announced in Canada's category-based Express Entry Draw

Highlights:  IRCC announces the first-ever STEM round of invitations!

• The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry announced to conduct the first round of STEM invitations.
• The IRCC is all set to conduct the first round of STEM invitations for the EE Draw on July 5, 2023.
• Candidates with STEM expertise will be prioritized for the invitations.
• The initiative is taken to promote the technological and economic advancements in Canada.
• The first-ever Tech Talent Stream was also recently launched on June 27, 2023, to develop businesses in Canada.

Eligibility for the STEM Round of Invitations for EE Draw

The first round of STEM invitations will be conducted on July 5, 2023.

Candidates with STEM expertise will be prioritized for the issuance of invitations.

The professionals who are eligible for the STEM invitations are as follows –

• Data scientists
• Software developers
• Programmers
• Mathematicians
• Statisticians
• Actuaries
• Electrical and Electronic Engineers

Category-based Selection EE Draw

• The Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, announced Category-based selection for Express Entry Draws.
• Six categories were finalized for the category-based EE Draws.

The lists of categories that are a part of the category-based selection are as follows –

1. Healthcare
2. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
3. Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
4. Transportation
5. Agriculture and Agri-food
6. Strong French language proficiency

*The first category-based Express Entry draw was held on June 28 and invited 500 healthcare professionals with a cut-off score of 476.
