Finland issued residence permits to 7,060 international students from January to October 2022. This is the highest number of permits issued in a year. Finnish Immigration Service has revealed a press release which states that the count of study permits issued in 2022 was 54 percent more than 2021.
The Deputy Director-General at Finnish Immigration Service Elina Immonen said that the number of residence permits issued in 2022 crossed the record-breaking count of residence permits provided in 2016.
She also told that the challenge of shortage of workers in Finland can be resolved through international students. This will also help in attracting more students to the country.
The residence permit to study in Finland is valid till the duration of the course. This rule became effective from April 2022. Previously, the validity of the residence permit was two years. The average processing time of the residence permit application is a maximum of 20 days whereas in 2021 it was 18.

As per the new laws, students can start working after completing their graduation. Besides this, they will also get other perks and this is the reason applications for Finnish residence permits can increase. From January to October 2022, the number of applications submitted for study permits was 8,236 which is 62 percent more in comparison to the same period in 2021.
