Highlights: IRCC announces the categories for the EE Category-based Draws

  • The IRCC announced the list of categories for the Category-based Draws on May 31, 2023.
  • The new category-based Draws will commence in the summer of 23’.
  • The General draws, and program-specific Draws are set to be held along with the Category-based Draws.
  • The Category-based Draws will prioritize candidates proficient in French with prior work experience.
  • The IRCC will select the highest-ranking candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for the draws.

A complete breakdown of the categories for the Category-based Draws 2023

  • The category-based draws will be conducted with the General, and Program-specific draws.
  • The General draws focus on inviting the highest ranking candidates for Canada permanent residence. The program-specific draws focus on inviting the highest ranking candidates via programs.
  • The category-based draws focus on inviting highest ranking candidates with French mastery or work experience in any of the mentioned fields –
  • Healthcare
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and Agri-food

Healthcare category:

  • The healthcare category in Canada has high openings for skilled candidates.
  • As per the 2022 Q4 stats, 143,695 job openings were available in the Social Assistance and Healthcare category.
