UAE has allowed short-term amnesty for those who have been living in the country illegally as their visas expired before March 1, 2020. Their stay has been extended for a period of 3 months.
The Amnesty scheme began on May 18, 2020. The scheme that was to end on August 18, 2020, will now run until November 17, 2020. Such people won’t have to pay to overstay fines too, provided they were leaving UAE.
The FAIC (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship) has counted the amnesty period as one among the many generous initiatives by the leaders of the UAE. Their concern for humanity and their priorities set likewise amidst the crisis created by COVID-19 are highly appreciable.
The Director-General of FAIC, General Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi has called on the offenders to use the chance and leave UAE without facing penalties.
Those who are eligible for the amnesty have been staying in the UAE after their Dubai tourist visa, UAE visit visa or residency has expired before March 1, 2020.
The scheme will not benefit tourists or visitors whose visas expired after March 1, 2020. Also, residents having lost their employments after March 1, 2020, and their residency visas been canceled won’t be beneficiaries of the scheme.
The authorities have required the offenders desiring to leave the UAE under the amnesty scheme are required to hold a valid passport apart from a flight ticket to go to their home countries.
The previous amnesty schemes needed registration beforehand at amnesty centers. But this time those getting the amnesty have to go straight to the airport.
Seekers of amnesty going out of the UAE via Dubai International airport must visit the immigration department at the terminals 48 hours prior to the time of the flight.
Those who are departing from Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi airports must arrive 6 hours prior to the time of their flight.
Those leaving UAE under the amnesty must ensure that all dependents and family members leave the country together at the same time.
Children under 15 years of age and people of determination are exempted from being subject to the amnesty process at the airports.
