Skilled workers who come to work in Canada arrive to take up different job profiles. Electrical engineers are one of those jobs. Now, electrical engineers can reach Canada via multiple pathways. This depends on Canadian employers who are ready to accept rightly qualified candidates.

Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NOC 2133) are counted in the top 10 Express Entry job categories. They are admitted by the specific occupation. It's also among the 29 most sought jobs under the BC PNP Tech Pilot. This means that foreign electrical engineers who migrate to Canada can do so in many ways.

The electrical engineers arriving in Canada have their duties defined. They may do all or some of these as required by their employers.

  • Design electrical and electronic components, circuits, equipment, and systems
  • Conduct research into the design, operation, feasibility, and performance of:
    • Electrical machinery and components
    • Electrical generation and distribution networks
    • Instrumentation and control systems
    • Electronic communications
    • Components
    • Equipment
  • Prepare material cost and timing estimates for electrical and electronic equipment and systems
  • Prepare design specifications and reports for electrical and electronic equipment and systems
  • Conduct micro or nanodevice simulations of new electronic devices and products developed
  • Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment
  • Conduct process modeling, characterization, and integration of new electronic devices and products developed
  • Supervise and inspect the installation and modification of electrical & electronic systems and equipment
  • Supervise and inspect the testing and operation of electrical & electronic systems and equipment
  • Prepare contract documents for construction or maintenance
  • Evaluate tenders for construction or maintenance
  • Investigate electrical or electronic failures
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers

Competitive salaries are offered to electrical engineers in Canada. For the most experienced professionals, $125,000 to $130,000 is offered upon getting established at work. Entry-level workers can earn salaries from $65,000 to $70,000. The salaries also depend on the city one works in. Cities like Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Calgary could offer larger pay.

Electrical Engineers coming to Canada are eligible to make an Express Entry for Electrical Engineer Canada Residency. For this, they need to have the right skills, qualifications, and experience in their country of origin.
