  • Denmark announced new rules for foreigners who are seeking short-term employment in the country.

About the latest changes for Foreigners in Denmark 

Denmark put up new rules for foreigners to work in the country. The new rules were implemented on 17 November 2023 that allows foreigners to work in Denmark without a residence permit or work permit. The candidate must be employed in any of the abroad company that is Denmark-affiliated and the company that the candidate is employed at must have a minimum of 50 employees. 


As per the latest changes, foreigners can work in a Denmark-based company for two different working periods within 6 months. Each of the working periods can include 15 working days. The candidate must stay outside Denmark for a period of 14 days between the working periods. 


Candidates must legally enter the country as a citizen of a visa-free country or with a visa that is exempted of the new rules.

List of industries that are exempted of the new rules

Within specific industries, the new changes announced by Denmark are only applicable for roles that require the highest or intermediate level of knowledge. 
The list of industries are given below:

  • Agriculture 
  • Forestry and Horticulture 
  • Construction 
  • Hotel and catering 
  • Cleaning jobs 
  • Carriage of goods 

 

As a rule, candidates who wish to work in Denmark are required to have a work permit. However, you are exempted from a work permit if the rules of Exemption are followed:


Rules of Exemption:

  • Exempt in general
  • Exempt for a maximum of 40 days per year if you are member of a board
  • Exempt for a maximum of 90 days for special work assignments
  • Exempt for up to 5 days as a guest teacher

List of professions that are exempted from the requirement of a work permit 

The list of professions that do not require a work permit and are exempted are listed below:

  • Artists
  • Musicians 
  • Performers 
  • Staff associated with an important event 
  • Guest teachers without a permit can teach for 5 days in an educational institution under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science or the Ministry of Culture.[Period of 180 days]
