Highlights: Hungary introduces 24 different types of residence permits!

• The new immigration law introduced by Hungary came into force on March 01, 2024. 
• 24 types of resident permits were announced, of which eight are for employment. 
• Separate work permit categories were introduced for highly skilled and low-skilled guest workers. 
• A new “Golden visa” will be effective from July 01, 2024, under Hungary’s new immigration law.

Hungary announces new immigration Law 

24 new types of resident permits were introduced under the new immigration law implemented in Hungary. 8 resident permits were specifically allotted for employment, while a new permit was introduced for investors. 

The country also announced a new type of resident permit for guest investors, known as the "Golden Visa". The work permit categories were divided based on skills, employers, occupations or countries. 

Residence permits expiring in January and February will now have an extension till April 30, 2024.

Documents required to apply for Hungary Residence Permit

The documents required to apply for a resident permit in Hungary are listed below: 

• A valid passport with a minimum validity of 90 days after returning from Hungary 
• Resident permit application form 
• Proof of enough funds to support your stay in Hungary 
• Health insurance 
• Details of investment (Applicable for Guest Investors) 

Some of the additional requirements may include:

• Certificate of birth 
• Certificate of marriage (if available)
• Deed of adoption (if available)
• Confirmation of family ties to an EEA citizen
