Caregivers in Canada

As per the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, Canada will welcome around 15,000 new PRs through caregiver visa programs. As of April 30, 2024, under the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot, around 5,700 caregivers and their family members had received Canada PRs.

Canada has a growing demand for caregivers, which is expected to increase further in the coming years. Canadian immigration Marc Miller stated that, "Caregivers play a critical role in supporting Canadian families and our programs need to reflect their invaluable contributions. As we work to implement a permanent caregivers program, these two new pilots will not only improve support for caregivers, but also provide families with the quality care they deserve."

A recent report by the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence revealed that around 1 out of 5 caregivers in Canada are over the age of 65 years. Canada has a huge demand for childcare providers as the participation of women has increased in the Canadian workforce. Recent StatCan reports show that the labor force participation rate for women aged 15 years or above has shot up to 61.5% in 2022.
