2020 has been a great year for Canada immigration. This year so far 78,350 ITAs have been issued to apply for Canada PR. These ITAs have been sent in draws conducted via the Express Entry system.
In the third quarter of 2020, 28,450 ITAs were issued to Express Entry candidates, which is more than the number of ITAs issued in any previous quarter since the launch of the Express Entry system in 2015.
Even when the COVID-19 emerged as a global crisis in the second quarter of 2020, the immigration Canada registered had issued 27,300 ITAs. This was a number not achieved in a quarter since Q4 of 2018.
In the Express Entry draw held on July 8, 2020, the Federal Skilled Worker Program candidates were included. Before that, they have been totally left out in the second quarter. Since September 2, 2020, IRCC has consistently held all-program draws. They don’t discriminate by program type.
In August 2020, there were 4 Express Entry draws held. On August 5, 2020, an all-program draw was conducted. On August 6, 2020, a Federal Skill Traders draw was held. In that draw, immigration candidates with trade experience were invited to apply for PR.
On August 19 and 20, 2020, Canada held Express Entry draws. These were exclusive to PNP and CEC candidates. Though the largest Express Entry draw ever was held on February 19, 2020, with 4,500 ITAs, there were 4,200 ITAs issued consistently in the last 3 draws in September 2020.
Since PR issuance via Express Entry draws take at least 6 months to complete, it will only be in 2021 that the new PRs will be seen on the ground in Canada.
Compared to July 2019, the number of PRs in July 2020 was 63% lesser. This was because of the travel restrictions, and service disruptions that happened due to the COVID-19 crisis. Hence, the details of the number of PRs admitted in August and September 2020 are yet to be revealed.
PNP is another pathway to PR in Canada. Immigration candidates without a high CRS score (I.e. above 470) can earn additional 600 points if they are nominated to a province in Canada. This could happen either when Express Entry candidates whose profiles are in the Express Entry pool are chosen for their suitability for their specific skills required in the particular province. Or else, these candidates could have submitted their applications directly to a particular province.
In Q3 of 2020, provinces including Ontario, Manitoba, PEJ, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, and BC held immigration draws.
British Columbia PNP is highly interested in issuing ITAs to tech-skilled workers for its booming tech industry. The province holds draws are held every week including Tech Pilot draws that invites tech-workers. ITAs are issued to skilled international workers skilled in other professional areas too.
The Saskatchewan PNP has held 4 invitation rounds that invited candidates from its Occupation in Demand and Saskatchewan Express Entry streams.
In 2020, MPNP held 6 invitation rounds in the last quarter. ITAs were sent to candidates from the streams of:
OINP held 3 draws and sent 2,000 ITAs to candidates to apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario. The invited candidates came from the streams of:
On September 24, 2020, NSIP held a Labor Market Priorities draw in which 47 ITAs were sent to Express Entry candidates who had primary occupations. These occupations were automotive service technicians and motor vehicle body repairers.
PEI PNP held 6 invitation rounds with ITAs issued to candidates under the Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact categories.
Quebec immigration invites
On September 24, 2020, Quebec held its largest draw since August 2019. ITAs were issued to 365 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate. Invitations were sent to candidates via the Arrima portal. This portal manages immigration applications for Quebec’s Regular Skilled Worker Program.
The candidates invited by MIFI belonged to 3 categories.
Thus, Canadian immigration performed well, even on record-breaking levels making Q3 of 2020 an all-time biggest quarter for Express Entry and a great year for PNP.
