List of Top 10 countries that received New Canada PRs in 2024

Below is the list of Top 10 countries that received new PRs in 2024.

 

1. India (64,730 new PRs)

India is one of the major sources of immigration in Canada. It is the leading country with the most number of new PRs issued in 2024 so far. A majority of Indians have chosen the Express Entry program, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and Family Sponsorship as their pathways to immigrate to Canada. Around 37,915 Indians got new PRs in Q1 2024, more than in Q1, 2022.

 

2. Philippines (14,360 new PRs)

Filipinos are one of the most consistent nationalities to contribute to the immigrants in Canada. Skilled worker streams, caregiver programs and Family sponsorship are three of the major immigration pathways for immigrants from the Philippines. Canada has a solid Filipino community within Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbian provinces. 7,995 immigrants from the Philippines were invited in Q1 2024. As of April and May 2024, 6,365 Filipinos were granted Canada PR.

 

3. China (13,100 new PRs)

Most Chinese immigrants received new PRs through Family sponsorship and economic immigration pathways. By the end of Q1 2024, 8,145 immigrants from China received new PRs, while April and May witnessed 4,955 new Chinese PR entries.

 

4. Nigeria (8,625 new PRs)

By the end of Q1 2024, 4,695 immigrants from Nigeria received PRs, including 3,930 in April and May combined.  

 

5. Afghanistan (7,055 new PRs)

Immigrants from Afghanistan usually migrate to Canada via Humanitarian and refugee programs. In recent times, the Canadian government has started giving more importance to Refugees from Afghanistan who offered assistance to the Canadian mission during the Taliban regime. Occasionally, Afghans also take up economic immigration streams and family sponsorship programs.  

 

6. Cameroon (6,785 new PRs)

The immigrants from Cameroon migrate to Canada via various streams, with Express Entry and PNP being the most chosen pathways. Cameroons with relatives in Canada also take up the Family sponsorship program while others transition from international students to PR holders via the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWP). 3,730 new PRs were issued in Q1 2024.

 

7. Iran (5,860 new PRs)

New Iranians enter Canada primarily via the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Express Entry program. Family sponsorship is another preferred immigration stream for those who wish to reunite with their loved ones in Canada. 3,570 new PRs were issued in Q1 2024; with April and May combined gave away 2,290 PRs.

 

8. Pakistan (4,485 new PRs)

Pakistanis are some of the prominent immigrants, due to their level of English proficiency and the presence of a strong community within Canada. Federal Skilled worker program and Provincial Nominee program are two of the most preferred pathways for Pakistanis. 2,635 new PRs were granted to immigrants from Pakistan in Q1 2024. One of the reasons for more immigrants migrating to Canada is the temporary immigration cap set to be imposed on asylum workers, temporary foreign workers, and international students.

 

9. United States (4,180 new PRs)

Canada has witnessed around 3 million Americans come to the country over the last few years. 1,700 Americans migrated to Canada in the first two months of the year, while in Q1 2024, 2,485 Americans received PRs.  

 

10. France (4,040 new PRs)

France maintains a strong immigration bond with Canada owing to the prominence of the French in Montreal and Quebec. 102,000 immigrants announced French as their first spoken language, with a majority of them living in Ontario (66,000), Alberta (13,000), and British Columbia (12,000).
