Highlights of Canada tourism in 2022

• Canada tourism is on a path of progress as there has been a steady improvement in tourism activity from May 2021.

There has been a steady growth in Canada tourism in the past year after the slump in tourism that happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was revealed in the report submitted by Statistics Canada.

Though the rate of Canada tourism was 21.2% lower than in 2019, 2021 has shown promising growth in the same after a tough time in 2020. After a temporary pause in tourism in January 2022, owing to the Omicron variant as well as renewed COVID-19 restrictions.

What did Statistics Canada say?

The level of tourism in Canada in 2022 is comparable to the numbers that were there in 2019. In June 2022, the number of international arrivals to Canada increased sharply. The number of arrivals matched those recorded in 2019. This was revealed in the “Leading Indicator of International Arrivals to Canada, June 2022” report. This was released in July 2022.

In June 2022, 846,700 non-resident visitors arrived at Canadian airports, which is over 820,000 more than in June 2021. The number of trips taken by US residents to Canada came to 904,700. These were done in June 2022, through land ports equipped with electronic sensors. This was over 800,000 more than what was recorded in June 2021.

About Canada Visitor Visa Also called a Temporary Resident Visa, Visitor Visa is a document that comes useful for tourists to visit Canada temporarily. The visa is added to the passport of a traveler.

Foreign nationals can determine whether they require a visitor visa or an eTA based on the following factors:

• The type of travel document used to travel
• The traveler’s nationality
• The country that issued the travel document
• The method of travel to Canada for the trip undertaken

Here are a few requirements to be eligible for the Visitor Visa:

• You must produce a valid travel document (E.g., a passport)
• You have to present proof of good health
• You mustn’t have a history of criminal/immigration-related convictions
• You must present proof of your ties with your home country, such as a job, financial assets, a property, or family
• You must produce evidence that you will leave Canada once your visit is done
• You must prove that you have sufficient funds to stay in Canada

You can apply for a visitor visa online or at a VAC (Visa Application Center). Typically, the fees for a visitor visa are:

• Application fee - CAD100
• Biometrics fees - CAD85 per person
• Passport processing fees – close to CAD45

If you have dependents, such as spouses and minor children coming with you, it’s necessary that they submit their own applications and pay fees separately.

Tourists arriving in Canada from abroad to visit the country to reconnect with family members or friends might need either one of the following

• An eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization)
• A Canada visitor visa
