Canada to resume invitations for FSWP, CEC, and PGWP candidates from July

Abstract: Canada plans to resume issuing invitations under CEC and FSWP.

Highlights:

• From July 2022, Canada will resume sending invitations to immigrants under the CEC and FSWP.
• The country will also issue a work permit to holders of PGWP.
• The applicants are not required to remain in Canada while their application is being processed.

The IRCC or Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada announced that it would resume sending invitations from July. Canada is set to resume sending invitations through the Express Entry pathway. The invitations will be sent to CEC, FSWP, and PGWP holders.

Extension of Work Permit for PGWP Holders

IRCC will be extending the work permit to 18 months for holders of PGWP or Post-Graduate Work Permit.

The candidates whose PGWP is about to expire in January-December 2022 will be eligible for a work permit extension of 18 months starting from the summer of this year. IRCC is planning to simplify the process and will announce more details in the coming weeks. In 2022, approximately 95,000 PGWPs will expire. Around 50,000 holders of PGWP will benefit from the extension of their work permit.

The candidates in the CEC or Canadian Experience Class pool are international students who have completed their graduation from a DLI or Designated Learning Institute of Canada. The candidates in this pool are eligible for the PGWP, which facilitates their employment in the country. It goes on to add points in the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System for their Canada PR or permanent residency.

CRS awards points for factors of human capital such as education, age, language skills, work experience, and so on.

The candidates need not be physically present in Canada when application processing.

Status of Express Entry in the Pandemic

The Express Entry pathway invited candidates from the CEC pool during the pandemic and invited 405,000 candidates. It also invited candidates from the PNP or Provincial Nominee Program.

Express Entry is a system of management of applications for the three immigration programs given below:

• CEC or Canadian Experience Class
• FSWP or Federal Skilled Worker Program
• FSTP or Federal Skilled Trades Program

Additionally, it manages PNP or Provincial Nominee Program applications.
