International students in Canada have got something to cheer about. Canadian Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser has announced a new policy in their interest. He made the announcement for foreign students in Canada on a Canada student visa. They must have recently completed their graduation and have their temporary status nearing expiry. They will be able to extend the validity of their PGWPs (Post Graduate Work Permit) in the country.

This new policy is going to help international students by offering an opportunity to increase their work experience in Canada after completing their studies on a Canada student visa. The more the Canadian work experience, the better their chances of obtaining a Canada PR visa.
The new policy will start to be applicable in Summer 2022 for international students in Canada who meet the following criteria:
These international students will be eligible for an extended open work permit with a validity of not more than 18 months.
Close to 95,000 PGWPs are up for expiry in 2022. Around 50,000 international students holding a PGWP are expected to benefit from this new policy for an open work permit. |
