The processing of electronic travel authorization (eTA) and temporary resident visas (TRV) has been reportedly resumed in Canada on June 9, 2020. This is a major step in Canada immigration activities since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has stated that the online processing of TRV will be done as much as possible.
Individuals currently able to travel will be considered on priority while processing applications.
Applications that have been submitted before the COVID-19 related travel restrictions have been imposed won’t be prioritized unless applicants communicate with IRCC.
While communicating with IRCC, the essential purpose of the travel, making them eligible for exemptions from travel restrictions should be clearly explained. They must also provide acceptable documentation to IRCC.
IRCC will also restart manually processing the eTA applications as much as possible. These would be those that drop out for the immigration officer’s review. IRCC will take steps to speed up this process as long as the applicant meets the exemption criteria in line with the current travel restrictions.
IRCC is trying its best to normalize application processing.
