Here’s great news for international students. It’s for those who enrolled in a Canadian university but had to complete the course online between March 2020 and August 2022.
The Canadian government has relaxed Canada immigration rules, in support of international students affected by COVID-19. Canada has granted international students PR eligibility if they were forced to complete their course with a Canadian university online after enrolment due to the pandemic.
As per Canada immigration rules, you will have no eligibility for Canadian educational credential points if more than 50% of your course was completed through distance learning. It includes online learning too.

These points are an important part of Canada PR eligibility for international students who wish to migrate to Canada. As per the new decision, if a foreign student has completed a study program online between March 2020 and August 2022, IRCC will accept such tenure of study. Such students will be granted points for their studies while calculating their CRS score in the Express Entry system.
