The process of opening the country up for international travelers is underway in Canada. In what could be good news for Canada immigration, the country has decided to allow 8 more Canadian airports to accept international flights starting at the end of November 2021.

This step will coincide well with the increased influx of people into the country after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have been lifted. The increased vaccination levels have made it safer to reopen an additional number of Canadian airports for international flights for passengers.

It was in August 2021, that Canada reopened 5 Canadian airports to international flights. With the reopening of 8 more airports on November 30, 2021, the total number of airports that will be open for international passengers will be 18. The 18 airports that will be open by the end of November 2021, are:

Opening on Nov 30, 2021

  • John’s International
  • Regina International
  • Abbotsford International
  • John C. Munro Hamilton International
  • Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International
  • Victoria International
  • Region of Waterloo International
  • Kelowna International

Already open

  • Halifax Stanfield International
  • Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International
  • Vancouver International
  • Québec City Jean Lesage International
  • Toronto Pearson International
  • Edmonton International
  • Montréal-Trudeau International
  • Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre
  • Calgary International

In coordination with the Canada Border Services Agency, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Transport Canada, Canadian airport authorities are working to implement safety measures to welcome international passengers. All these steps are pushing Canada immigration forward and reestablishing the immigrant flow that was slacking due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The credit to these new developments has been attributed to the timely rollout of vaccine passports as well as a robust vaccination program. In August 2021 itself, Canada had reopened its border with the USA, allowing fully-vaccinated Americans to enter Canada.

Vaccine Passport

Justin Trudeau, the Canadian PM, has made an announcement about the launch of a nationally standardized vaccine passport system by all territorial and provincial governments in Canada.
