Canada’s new permanent pathway

Canada has announced that it plans to speed up the process of issuing Canada PR or permanent residency to temporary residents. A new permanent pathway is being created to aid the process.

Canada had announced in 2021 that it would accept ninety-thousand applications from temporary residents in Canada. It had started a one-time, TR-to-PR or temporary-to-permanent resident program which received applications till November.

Planning a New TR2PR Pathway

The federal government of Canada is planning a pathway to issue permanent residency in Canada to temporary foreign workers and international students. The pathway is devised to be sustainable in its function and efficiently integrates immigrants seeking PR in Canada.

Canada does not envision the pathway as a knee-jerk reaction to address the critical labor shortage but as a coherent process to aid in Immigration Levels Plan for 2022-2024.

TR2PR in 2021

The TR2PR pathway was aimed at healthcare workers and international graduates in 2021.

Canada had announced that it would accept 90,000 applications in 2021, but 84,177 applications.

The IRCC or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada figures show that Canada had issued PR to 23,885 immigrants through the TR2PR pathway. 22,190 have received their PR facilitated by the pathway in the first four months of 2022.

Canada has implemented Open Work Permit and PGWP or Post-Graduate Work Permit to retain skilled workers, international professionals, and international graduates. The new policy will make it easier for people who migrate to Canada.
