Canada immigration soaring higher!

The most exciting news about Canada immigration today is that 2022 is expected to see 500,000 newcomers arriving in Canada with the summer season coming. The eventful immigration scene of Canada since 2020 is an interesting study of how the right strategy and consistent standard of operations generate great results.

2020 and the COVID challenge

After March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred in Canada, restrictions were imposed to ensure that the health of people isn’t affected by the spread of the disease. Travel restrictions prevented new foreigners from arriving in Canada and only prioritized immigration candidates like healthcare professionals were allowed to enter the Canadian border.

Among the exceptions that were granted were students who came on a Canada study permit, and those who arrived on a Canada PR visa. These individuals had to get prior approval. The restrictions were lifted by June 2021.

During this period, priority was given to CEC and Canada PNP immigration candidates who were mostly present in Canada and only had to get their status transitioned to PR from a temporary visa holder.

2021 and the road to rising immigration

In 2021, Canada saw high levels of immigration despite the gradually waning restrictions. Canada had 405,000 new immigrants in 2021. This in fact was a landmark achievement as it was the second time in the history of Canada immigration that it achieved more than 400,000 newcomers.

By Q3 of 2021, the number of newcomers who came to Canada increased to 123,000. As a trend, it was observed that newcomers prefer to arrive in Canada in the spring and summer seasons.

The gallop continues in 2022!

As per the Canada Immigration Levels Plan for 2022-2024, by the end of 2022, the Government of Canada is targeting at bringing in 432,000 new Canada PR visa holders to the country. This is heavily motivated by the success of Canada immigration in 2021 when 405,000 newcomers called Canada home.

Number of immigrants landed in Q1 of 2022

In Q1 of 2022, there was a 60% increase in immigrants when compared to Q1 of 2021. Here are the estimates of Canada immigration according to the type of immigrants arriving in Canada in Q3:

• Over 100,000 Canada PR visa holders with at least 130,000 new permanent residents in Canada between July and September could arrive owing to seasonal factors.
• Around 270,000 new international students could arrive to study in Canada between July and September 2022. This will follow the consistent increase of 30% in the number of new international students in Q1 of 2022 when compared to Q1 of 2021.
• It’s expected that 110,000 to 120,000 new Canada work permit holders could arrive in Canada between July and September 2022. This follows 28,000 new foreign workers who arrived under TFWP and 73,000 Canada work permit holders created in Q1 of 2022, under IMP. Though these numbers were lesser than the numbers in 2021 and they are still higher than what they were in 2019.
