Payroll Employment in Canada

The StatCan releases two monthly reports that measure employment trends and levels via the Survey of Employment, Payrolls, and Hours (SEPH) and the Labour Force Survey (LFS).

The SEPH measures payroll employment by the number of employees receiving pay and employment benefits in a month. The survey excludes the following people:

• Self-employed individuals
• Partners and owners of independent businesses
• Individuals working in the agricultural sector
