What is IEC?

International Experience Class (IEC) allows foreign youth to live and work in Canada for two years. Individuals from countries with Bilateral Youth Mobility Agreements with Canada are eligible for an IEC.

 

The IEC program facilitates the exchange of skilled workforce, including youth between the age of 18-35, to travel and work across the countries. The functionality of the IEC system is similar to that of the Express Entry program.

 

 

Candidates can receive a work permit under any of the three streams mentioned below via the IEC program.

 

The Working Holiday stream:

The Working Holiday stream issues an Open Work Permit (OPW) for a maximum of two years. OWP visa holders are allowed to work for any Canadian employer in any of the industries.

 

Young Professionals Stream:

The Young Professionals Stream grants an employer-specific work permit or LMIA-specific (Labour Market Impact Assessment). The work permit is for candidates with an employment offer and who plan on working for only one Canadian employer.

 

International Co-op Internship stream:

The International Co-op Internship stream authorizes candidates from participating countries in post-secondary programs to participate in internships or placement-related programs.

Eligibility Criteria for Canada IEC

The eligibility requirements for candidates who wish to apply for the IEC program are as follows:

 

• Must be a citizen belonging to any of the 35+ tied-up countries.
• Must have a valid passport.
• Must be within the age groups of (18-29, 18-30, or 18-35) at the time of application.
• Must have sufficient proof of funds worth CAD 2,500.
• Must have medical insurance
• Must be inadmissible to Canada.
• Must provide proof of travel itinerary.
• Must pay the required fees
• Must not be accompanied by dependents.
