Highlights: PGWPs to be extended for 18 months

• Immigration Minister Sean Fraser declared that PGWPs can work for 4.5 years.
• Foreign nationals with an expired PGWP can extend it for 18 months.
• International graduates whose PGWP expired last year or early in 2023 are eligible to gain work experience for an added one year & 6 months.
• Candidates with an expired work permit can extend it despite surpassing the 90-day Restoration period.

Good news for foreign nationals in Canada! PGWP can now work for 4.5 years.

• Graduates with expired permits can now extend their PGWP for 18 more months and gain additional work experience.
• Candidates with expired work permits can get their status renewed despite exceeding the 90-day restoration period given by the government.

The table below lists the number of PGWPs transitioned to Canadian PRs in the past two years.

IRCC spokesperson Rémi Larivière said, “Out of 406,005 candidates that converted to Canadian permanent residency in the year 2021, 157,000 were foreign students.” It was set as the new record as of 2021.
