It was time for a Tech Pilot draw on June 15, 2021, in British Columbia. BC issued invitations to 72 immigration candidates working in the IT sector. They were invited to apply for a provincial nomination.
The BC PNP Tech, through which the invitations were issued, is part of the BC PNP. These candidates had to meet the criteria of one of BC’s Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC categories. The SIRS manages these categories.
Candidates who got invitations in the June 15 draw came from the International Graduate as well as Skilled Worker subcategories. They needed a minimum of 80 as their provincial score.
The candidates who received invitations have 30 calendar days to file an application for the nomination.
BC has invited 5,321 immigration candidates this year.

It was in 2017 that the launching of the BC PNP Tech happened as a pilot project. It happened following a labor market study. In the study, the biggest issue BC’s technology sector face was revealed. The issue was about the access to required tech talent.
The pilot project has since then gone very successfully. It has led to over 6,000 potential immigrants getting nominations for Canada PR. On the basis of its success, the BC tech pilot project has been extended annually for the past 4 years.
In 2021, the project will finally be made permanent as per the announcement from the province. This decision was made considering the requests from employers and stakeholders in the IT sector.
The BC PNP Tech, as it’s called now, is still a fast-track pathway for Canada immigration for international students and in-demand tech workers. For eligibility, candidates must register in any of BC’s current streams of provincial immigration. The candidates also need to have a job offer that’s valid for a minimum of 12 months. The job will be one in the list of 29 occupations deemed eligible.
What’s different about BC PNP Tech compared to the other BC PNP streams is that the job offers under it has to be for at least a year. Also, there must be a minimum of 120 days left in the validity when the application is filed with the BC PNP. The job offer has also to be full-time, originating from an employer in BC, deemed eligible.
Invitations via BC PNP Tech are issued weekly to the candidates who score the highest and meet the criteria for eligibility.
The invited candidates have 30 days to file a complete application. After applying, in most cases, the applicants will get their tech applications processed within 2 to 3 months.
Once they are approved, candidates will get a confirmation of the nomination. This can be used to apply for Canada PR from IRCC under the PNP class.
