What is the New Skills in Demand Visa?

The New Skills in Demand Visa was announced by the Australian government as a part of the latest Migration Strategy. The visa will work on addressing the skill gaps and the mobility of workers in the labor market. The new visa will more likely replace the existing Subclass 482 (Temporary Skills Shortage) Visa.

 

The Skills in Demand Visa will offer three distinct pathways that are mentioned below:

 

Specialist Skills Pathway:

This is specifically for highly skilled migrants who play a major role in contributing to the economy of Australia. The primary requirement of this pathway is to have annual earnings of a minimum of AUD 135,000, which is more than the income of the Australian workers who belong to the same occupation. Trades workers, machinery operators, laborerss and drivers are the only exceptions that are not eligible for this pathway.

 

Core Skills Pathway:

This is specifically for candidates with skills that align with that of the new Core Skills Occupations List. The primary requirement is for candidates to earn a minimum of Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold ("TSMIT").

 

Essential Skills Pathway:

This pathway is yet to be fully finalized and is still under development, the pathway is specifically for targeted workers with necessary skills and earnings of under AUD 70,000.

• Comes with a validity of four years with definite pathways for Australia PR.
• Facilitates workers to switch employers during the tenure of the visa by offering 180 days to look for an alternate sponsor while continuing to work.
