Change in Australia’s population

The overall population of Australia rose to 26.8 Million in 2023, 83% of which was contributed by the net overseas Immigration. The population grew by 548,800 people, with 765,000 overseas migration arrivals and 217,100 departures last year.

The net overseas migration increased by 60%, with 34% overseas migration arrivals. Most of the net overseas migration arrivals were reportedly on a temporary work visa or Australia study visa.

The top three provinces with the highest level of net Immigration were NSW, Victoria, and Queensland, while the Northern Territory received the lowest migration rates.
