Alberta runs its own PNP program, the Alberta PNP, through which qualifying candidates can get permanent residence. Candidates are invited via Express Entry programs like the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program, Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program, and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). AAIP functions in two steps: applications are set up for a provincial nomination, and nominated profiles submit applications to the federal government for PR. The province offers different streams for foreign nationals applying for the AAIP program. The list of AAIP streams is given below:

Alberta PNP announced the inauguration of a new EOI (Expression of Interest) system that will come into effect on September 30. The latest EOI system is set to accept the current Expression of Interest intakes. Candidates who submit an EOI will be placed in the selection pool, and invitations will be sent to candidates based on their rankings and provincial labor market needs and priorities.
As of July 25, 2024, 466 web form submissions were in the pool. The applications were received from May 23 to June 11, 2024, and were submitted for the Alberta Rural Renewal Stream, Alberta Opportunity Stream, and Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

The province is also discussing plans to introduce a new PR program for foreigners employed as police officers in Canada. The new pathway would help the police services in Alberta fulfill the recruitment goals for public protection while addressing crime promptly. The primary criteria are that the invitees have an employment offer from a Police member of the Alberta Association of Chiefs and that the employer must also be a lawful member of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police.

Bulgaria Granted Citizenship to Over 16,000 People in 2024

According to the Bulgarian authorities, the country granted citizenship to many foreign nationals in 2024, surpassing the 2023 numbers. The recent Schengen news report reveals that more than 16,000 people have received Bulgarian citizenship, thus becoming EU citizens. This recorded a 33.3 percent increase in 2023 when Bulgaria granted citizenship to 12000 foreign nationals.
In 2023, more than 2,400 Ukrainians received a Bulgarian passport. With more than 200 fewer citizenship acquisitions, Turkish nationals rank second, with 2,200 of them obtaining Bulgarian citizenship in 2024.
According to the report, Ukrainian and Turkish citizens were the top beneficiaries of Bulgarian citizenship in 2024. Below is the table of nationalities that were granted Bulgarian passport:

Finland plans to fast-track Residence Permits for international students

The Finnish government plans to fast-track the process of obtaining residency permits for students; while on the other hand, Finland is also proposing to tighten the process of family reunification visas. Once this proposal is implemented by Finland, international students will have the opportunity to become permanent residents without having to complete the required residency period as they currently do.
Finland needs more highly skilled workers, which could increase the number of arrivals at Finnish universities. This new change is expected to make Finland a more attractive destination for International students. By attracting more students in highly qualified skilled fields, the government aims to address the labor shortage across the country.
