Increase in German Citizenship

According to recent reports, naturalization rates in Germany shot up to 651,495 between 2018 and 2022. The new Germans include immigrants from 169 countries, while Syria and Turkey contribute around 23.3% of total immigrants. 
151,995 people who received German Citizenship were from Syria or Turkey. 

 

Top 10 nationalities to obtain German Citizenship

Statistics show 3 out of 10 nationalities receiving German Citizenship are from Europe. Over 33,000 British nationals received German Citizenship, forming the third largest nationality to obtain Citizenship in Germany.

Naturalisations up by 50.2% Since 2018

An increase of 50.2% has been reported since 2018, with 56,435 people getting German Citizenship. There has been a gradual increase in naturalization rates, and the highest was recorded between 2021 and 2022, accounting for almost 29 per cent. 

 

According to the recent Migration Outlook by OECD, 16% of the German population are found to be migrants. Following the recent announcement of the German Parliament Passing the Dual Citizenship Rules, the numbers are anticipated to increase further. This law would allow around 50,000 people with Turkish roots to get Citizenship in Germany. About 1.5 million Turks reside in Germany and have yet to acquire Citizenship.
